A "Default Modifier" is automatically applied to a menu item when a customer adds it to their cart. GRUBBRR recommends configuring these modifiers for all relevant items, as they can make the ordering process significantly easier for your customers. NCR actually offers two different types of Default Modifiers, and your GRUBBRR Kiosk Menu can import and apply both.
What are "Recipe Options?"
"Recipe Options" are default modifiers that are considered a "core" part of the menu item, like a burger bun. If customers leave these items selected, the Kiosk will not include them on the ticket we send to your POS. But, if the customer chooses to remove these items, the Kiosk will include them as a "Negative Modifier" when the customer submits their order. This means that you'll see a "NO Bun" (or similar) line item on your POS indicating that this item has been removed.
As previously mentioned, Recipe Options are best used for modifiers where we'd expect the average guest to leave the modifier selected for their orders. Buns for burgers, hot fudge for sundaes, or unique modifiers attached to a menu item all make good Recipe Options for your menu.
What are "Item Defaults?"
"Item Defaults" are modifiers that are automatically applied to a menu item, but are more likely to be removed when a customer is adding the item to their cart. For example, while a burger bun would be a good "recipe option," lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles would make better item defaults. The Kiosk will send line items for each of these modifiers that a customer leaves selected when they submit the order, and will leave any deselected items off of the order.
