Once we've created modifiers, we can assign them to our menu items. There are two ways to do this: on an item-by-item basis or in bulk by creating Common Modifier Groups. In this article, we'll walk you through both of these methods.
Mapping Modifiers at the Item Level
If desired, you can manually map modifiers on an item-by-item basis. This process is time-consuming, though, and is only recommended if an item has a unique modifier list or if you only offer a few items with modifiers on your menu.
Go to staging.grubbrr.com
1. Sign in to the Portal at the Company or Location level
Depending on where you manage your menu as a whole
2. Click "Menu"
3. Click "Catalog Management"
4. Click "Items"
5. Click "Manage Modifiers"
6. Click "Add New"
This will create a modifier group- we don't map modifiers individually
7. Enter a name for the Modifier Group
8. Assign the Modifier Group a Kiosk Display Order
"0" adds it to the top of the list
9. Assign the Modifier Group a KDS Display Order
"0" adds it to the top of the list
10. The "Min Selection" value determines how many modifiers in this group must be added to the item
A "Min Selection" of 1 means that Guests must add at least one item from this group to their item before they can add it to their cart
11. The "Max Selection" value determines how many modifiers in this group can be added to the item
A "Max Selection" of 3 means that Guests can only add three modifiers from this group to their item
12. The "Max Portion" value determines how many portions of an ingredient guests can add to their item
If a modifier group (i.e., "Cheese") has a "Max Selection" of 2 and a "Max Portion" of 2, guests can choose to add two of the same modifier (i.e., two slices of cheddar cheese) to their order, instead of being required to choose two different modifiers
13. GRUBBRR recommends leaving both of these fields at their default values
This allows you to add premium and free modifiers to the same group, and can make your menu more intuitive for guests
14. Select a Modifier to add to this group from the "Select Ingredient" dropdown
15. Click "+" add the ingredient to the group
Click the selected button
16. Click "Save" to finalize your changes
Mapping Modifiers through Common Modifier Groups
"Common Modifiers" are pre-set modifier groups that we create and then map to multiple menu items. If you have a large menu, or several items that would use the same modifier selections (i.e., common sandwich toppings), this function allows you to efficiently map modifiers to menu items in bulk.
1. Click "Menu"
2. Click "Modifier Management"
3. Click "Common Modifiers"
4. Click "Add New"
5. Enter a name for the Modifier Group
6. Assign the Modifier Group a Kiosk Display Order
"0" adds it to the top of the list
7. Assign the Modifier Group a KDS Display Order
"0" adds it to the top of the list
8. The "Min Selection" value determines how many modifiers in this group must be added to the item
A "Min Selection" of 1 means that Guests must add at least one item from this group to their item before they can add it to their cart
9. The "Max Selection" value determines how many modifiers in this group can be added to the item
A "Max Selection" of 3 means that Guests can only add three modifiers from this group to their item
11. GRUBBRR recommends leaving both of these fields at their default values
This allows you to add premium and free modifiers to the same group, and can make your menu more intuitive for guests
12. Select a Modifier to add to this group from the "Select Ingredient" dropdown
13. Click "+" add the ingredient to the group
Click the selected button
14. Click "Save" to finalize your changes
