A "Duplicate Entry Key" error typically occurs during the order confirmation process when an item syncs to the GRUBBRR Portal with multiple/duplicate tax rates assigned to it from Square. Typically, we can resolve this error by following the steps below:
Confirm which menu item(s) caused the error
Ask the guest and verify on your kiosk device which item (s) encountered the Duplicate Entry Key Error during order confirmation. This information will make finding and fixing the error in the Square and GRUBBRR portals easier.
Review Tax Mapping in the GRUBBRR Portal
Next, we want to review tax mapping in the GRUBBRR Portal to confirm that taxes are the root cause of the error. To review tax mapping:
- Sign in to the GRUBBRR Portal at the Location level
- Select Operations in the left sidebar
- Select Tax, Tips, & Other Charges in the dropdown
- Select Tax Groups
- On the Tax Group List page, click on the purple Item Mapping button in the action column
- Review the Tax Group Mapped column at the right of the screen; an item affected by the Duplicate Entry Key error will show two identical taxes in this column
Verify Tax Mapping in Square
Now that we've confirmed the affected item(s) in the GRUBBRR portal, we can resolve the issue in Square. Remember that Square is always the source of truth for GRUBBRR- you will need to verify that each impacted item has the proper tax applied in Square, then manually sync to update your GRUBBRR portal.
Note: If the affected item(s) do not show duplicate taxes in the Square portal, GRUBBRR still recommends checking the item's details and saving before syncing with your GRUBBRR portal. That way, we can ensure that the proper information gets pulled into our system.
Once you've confirmed your item settings in Square, manually sync with your GRUBBRR portal by following the steps below:
- Sign in to the GRUBBRR Portal at the Company level
- Select Integration in the left sidebar
- Select Square from the dropdown menu
- Click Sync Data from Square
After the sync process is finished, review your items' tax mapping using the process above. If the sync was successful, you should only see one entry for each relevant tax group in the Tax Group List table.
