Clover SMB: Setting up Modifier Groups and Modifiers in Clover

One popular feature of your GRUBBRR kiosk is the ability for guests to modify the items in their order as they go. Your GRUBBRR devices automatically import and display modifiers you configure in your Clover POS- however, you can't edit these modifiers through the GRUBBRR Portal. So, we've put together a guide to help you build and assign modifiers to your items through the Clover backend and configure them so your guests have the best possible experience at your GRUBBRR Kiosk. 

Creating a Modifier Group

First, we'll need to create any modifier group(s) you want to use for your Menu Items. As a general rule, it's a good idea to plan out modifier groups with the kiosk order flow in mind- how do you want your guests to go through building their items? To create Modifier Groups in Clover: 

  1.  Sign in to your Clover account
  2. Click Inventory in the left sidebar
  3. Select Modifier Groups in the dropdown menu
  4. On the Modifier Groups page, click the green Add Modifier Group button at the top left of the page
  5. On the Modifier Group pop-up, enter the following information:
    • A Modifier Group Name
    • An Online Group Name, which will be imported to your GRUBBRR portal
    • Optional: You can add multiple modifier groups to your Clover system from this pop-up if desired by clicking the Add another modifier group option 
  6. Click Done to close the pop-up and navigate back to the Modifier Group List

Editing Your New Modifier Group

Once we've added our new modifier group(s) to Clover, we can apply the settings and add the individual modifiers we want to use on our GRUBBRR devices. To edit your new modifier group: 

  1. Click on the name of your newly created modifier group to open the Modifier Group Settings page
  2. In the Basic Info section of the Modifier Group Settings Page:

    • Make sure that Show Upon Order Entry on POS is checked on 
  3. Click Add in the Modifiers table, and enter the following:

      • Enter a Modifier Name
      • If desired, give your modifier an upsell price
      • Click Add another modifier to repeat, as needed
      • Click Done to add your modifier(s) to your modifier Group
  4. Next, we need to make sure that all modifiers are listed as Available Online so that they can be used with your GRUBBRR Kiosk:
    • Click the checkbox in the top left of the Modifier table
    • Click the Bulk Edit Options dropdown
    • Click Availability
    • Check the box for Online
    • Click Done to apply your changes
  5. Now we'll assign your modifier group to menu items; click Add in the Items table and make the following configurations:

    • Scroll or search for the items you want to map your new modifiers to
    • Make sure that each item is checked on
    • Click Save to finalize your list
  6. Repeat as needed for each additional modifier group you've created

Assigning Minimum and Maximum Modifiers

Now that we've created and mapped modifier groups, the final step will be configuring the minimum and maximum settings for each modifier group we created. These determine how many selections guests can make in each group. To configure the Minimum and Maximum settings for a modifier group:

  1. Make sure the page has been refreshed since the previous step
  2. Use the dropdown boxes for How many choices can your customers pick in the Basic Info section to select the Required and Maximum options for your modifier group

    • Required sets the minimum number of modifiers that must be applied to an item to add it to the order
    • Max determines the upper limit of modifiers that can be added to an item
  3. Click Save to apply your changes

Importing Modifier Groups and Modifiers to the GRUBBRR Portal

  1. Sign in to merchant.grubbrr.com 
  2. Click the Sync icon at the top right of the page
  3. Click Pull and Push to update the GRUBBRR portal and your kiosks with your new modified items
