In a previous article, we discussed some of the basics for configuring combos in the GRUBBRR Portal. But your kiosk can display more than just basic or builder-mode combos. GRUBBRR has a unique combo mode called Box Builder that was explicitly designed with donut concepts in mind. In this article, we'll walk you through all the steps you'll need to take to enable this feature at your restaurant.
Creating New Combo Groups
For Box Builder mode to work, you'll need to create a unique Combo Group for each donut in the box. For example, if we want to offer a three-donut package, we'll need to make three separate combo groups.
As a reminder, to create a new combo group:
- Sign in to the GRUBBRR Portal at the Company or Location level, depending on where you manage your menu
- Click on Menu in the left sidebar
- Click on Catalog Management in the dropdown
- Click on Combo Groups
- Click on Add New
- Configure the following:
- Group Name
- Display Order
- Minimum Selection should be set to 1
- Maximum Selection should be set to 1
- Main Combo Group should be off
- Click Save
Remember, you'll need to repeat this process for every item in your combo.
Creating Your New Combo Item
Once you've configured Combo Groups, you can create a combo item by following the steps outlined in the Combos guide. As a reminder, the process to create a combo is as follows:
- Sign in to the GRUBBRR Portal at the Company or Location level, depending on where you manage your menu
- Click on Menu in the left sidebar
- Click on Catalog Management in the dropdown
- Click on Combos
- Click on Add New
- Make sure to configure:
- The combo's Name
- The combo's Price
- The combo's Display Order- where do you want this to appear?
- The Category where the combo will be displayed
- Note: If desired, you can configure a category specifically for combos through the GRUBBRR Portal
- The Kitchen responsible for preparing the item
- Once you've configured the essential information for your combo, scroll down and click the option labeled Click to Manage Additional Settings
- On the Additional Settings tab, make sure that Box Builder Mode is turned on
- Click Save
Mapping Items to Your New Combo
Now, we need to map combo groups to our new item. Because of the way Box Builder works, though, we'll need to map items a little bit differently than we would for a traditional combo. To map items to your new Box Builder Combo:
- Look through the Combo List and find the combo you want to configure
- Click on the blue Item Mapping button in the action column
- On the Combo Group Create page:
- Select the first Combo Group from the dropdown
- Each Combo Group represents one selection that guests can make within the combo
- Select which Category you'll be drawing items from
- Select all Menu Items that guests can select during the Build-A-Box Process from the dropdown
- Enter a value into the display order field
- Make sure that the Max No of Item is set to 1
- Select Add
- Repeat for each additional group you'll be including in the combo
- Select the first Combo Group from the dropdown
When properly configured, our Three Donut Sampler has eighteen items mapped to it- three separate combo groups, each containing all six donuts that our concept offers.
From here, we can make additional configurations as needed—if, for example, the Maple Bacon donut costs $1.00 extra, we can manually add the extra price to this table before we click Save.
As always, remember to Sync your changes to apply them to your GRUBBRR Kiosk!
