GRUBBRR's Pizza Builder (Pictured above) is an enhanced modifier display mode explicitly designed for pizza concepts. Like our standard Builder Mode, Pizza Builder guides your customers through a step-by-step selection process to add modifiers to their items; however, Pizza Builder also allows guests to choose whether to put toppings on just one half of their pizza or the whole pie. This gives your guests extra control over their orders and minimizes the need for special requests at the kiosk.
Overview
To use Pizza Builder Mode with your GRUBBRR Kiosk, you'll need to configure the following elements in the GRUBBRR Portal:
- Create Pizza Modifiers
- Create Pizza Modifier Groups
- Create Pizza Menu Items
Each element must be configured correctly for Pizza Builder to work on your kiosk.
How to Create Pizza Modifiers
Modifiers in Pizza Builder mode are split into two sub-categories. There are modifiers that customers select and apply to the whole pizza (i.e., sauce or crust modifiers), and there are modifiers that use the Half and Half menu function. We'll primarily focus on the latter in this article.
Configuring Modifiers that Apply to the Whole Pizza
Modifiers that apply to the whole pizza are configured as ingredients, following the process outlined in this guide. Please note that Pizza Builder does not support nested modifiers for items in this category.
Configuring Modifiers for Half and Half Mode
Modifiers that use the Half and Half function- the ability to add a modifier to only one half of the pizza- must be created as Selections, each with three related ingredients. To create pizza toppings using the Half and Half function, please follow the steps outlined below:
Create the Selection
- Sign in to your GRUBBRR Portal at the Location level
- Select Menu from the left sidebar
- Select Ingredient Management from the dropdown menu
- Select Selections
- Click the Add New button at the top right of the screen
- On the Selection Creation Screen, make the following configurations:
- In the Selection Name field, enter the name of the topping- i.e., Pepperoni
- In the Selection Code field, enter a unique identifier for the topping in your menu
- For this example, we set the Code to P so that we can set the sub-modifiers to P1, P2, and P3
- Click on the edit button for Selected Image and upload a locally saved image of your topping
- Make sure that the box labeled Ingredient is unchecked
- Click Save
We'll repeat this process for each unique topping we want to offer on the GRUBBRR Kiosk
Create the Ingredients
Once we've configured our pizza topping as a selection, we'll configure three additional versions of the topping as ingredients. These will allow the kiosk to offer the topping in Half and Half mode. To create the individual ingredients:
- Select Menu from the left sidebar
- Select Ingredient Management from the dropdown menu
- Select Selections
- Click the Add New button at the top right of the screen
- On the Selection Creation Screen, make the following configurations:
- In the Selection Name field, give the selection a unique name
- GRUBBRR recommends using a standard convention for all sub-modifiers in your menu, such as:
- L-Ingredient
- W- Ingredient
- R- Ingredient
- GRUBBRR recommends using a standard convention for all sub-modifiers in your menu, such as:
- In the Selection Code field, enter a unique identifier for the topping in your menu
- For this example, we set the Code to P1, linking this item back to the topping we created in the previous step
- Upload a locally saved image for the ingredient
-
Note: The kiosk will generate an "in-progress" display of the client's pizza; for best results, GRUBBRR recommends creating three separate images of the topping, representing whether the item will display on the Left side of the pizza (as in our example), the whole pizza, or the right side of the pizza
- Remember that GRUBBRR's system defaults to 400x400 pixels; to display correctly, your images will need to include blank space to fit these dimensions
-

- Make sure that the box labeled Ingredient is checked
- Note: You do not need to make any changes to the default ingredient settings
- Click Save
- In the Selection Name field, give the selection a unique name
We will need to repeat this process three times for each topping we want to offer on our kiosk.
Creating Pizza Modifier Groups
Just like with modifiers, we will need to configure two different types of modifier groups. Some modifier groups will apply to the entire pizza, while others will use the Half and Half functionality.
Creating Modifier Groups that Apply to the Whole Pizza
We'll map modifiers that will apply to the whole pizza- i.e., offering the guests a choice between classic tomato sauce or a white sauce on their pizza- to modifier groups using the process outlined in this guide.
Creating Modifier Groups for Half and Half Mode
To create a modifier group for toppings that will use the Half and Half Function, follow the steps below:
- Select Menu from the left sidebar
- Select Modifier Management from the dropdown menu
- Select Common Modifiers
- Click the Add New button at the top right of the Common Modifier List page
- On the Modifier Page, make the following configurations:
- Enter an easily identifiable name in the Modifier Name field- i.e., Choose your Toppings
- Assign a Display Order for the modifier- for our example, we set this to 2, so it will appear after a guest chooses their sauce
- Leave the field labeled Min Selection at 0
- In the field labeled Max Selection, enter the maximum number of toppings a guest can add to their pizza.
- The field labeled Max Portion can be left at the default value of 0
- In the Selected Ingredients table, make sure that you map the Selections you created in the previous step
- Note: Selections will have an (S) suffix and will be displayed in green in the table
- After you have added all applicable selections, click Save
- Once the Portal takes you back to the Common Modifier List, search or scroll to find your newly created Modifier Group
Our next step will be to map the sub-modifiers we created to the Selections we've mapped to this common modifier group. To do so:
- Click the blue Edit button in the action column of the topping you wish to configure
- Most of the required fields should automatically populate; however, you will need to make the following configurations:
- Upload a locally saved image file for the Selected Image field
- Ensure that the checkbox labeled Allow Half-and Half Pizza Mode is Checked
-
In the Selected Ingredients table, you'll need to add the three different Ingredients you created in the previous step.
- Ingredients will have an (I) Suffix and will be displayed in blue
-
Optional: If you would like to enable the Extra option for toppings on your kiosk, enter 2 for each ingredient in the Max Qty column
- If the topping has an upcharge, your kiosk will treat Extra as two orders of the topping
- Click Save
We'll need to repeat this process for each selection we've mapped to our modifier groups.
Creating Pizza Menu Items
Finally, we'll make our Pizza Builder Menu Items. To create an item for Pizza Builder Mode:
- Select Menu from the left sidebar
- Select Catalog Management from the dropdown
- Select Items
-
Add a New Item with the following configurations:
- Make sure the flag labeled This item requires modifiers or toppings is checked
- Select the Modifier Groups you created in the previous step from the dropdown menu
- Select the button labeled Click to Manage Additional Settings
- In the Additional Settings menu, make sure that the flag labeled Pizza Builder Mode is Checked
- Scroll back to the Top of the Create Item Page
-
If desired, upload a locally saved image as your item's Pizza Base Image; this will best represent your product to the customer during the ordering process
- GRUBBRR's Portal automatically generates a Pizza Base Image by default if you do not have one
- Once your pizza has been configured, click Save to finish your configurations and activate it in your menu
- Make sure the flag labeled This item requires modifiers or toppings is checked
