Kiosk Best Practices: Setting Default Selections in the GRUBBRR Console

Last updated: August 8, 2026

Can customers add items to their cart without needing to select "standard" toppings or modifiers?

GRUBBRR Kiosks give your guests a lot of ways to customize the items in their carts. This added control helps your customers get exactly what they want, every time; but some guests may not actually want to make all of these choices when they're adding an item to the cart.

To create the "best of both worlds" for your customers, it's important to take some time and create "default" modifiers and combo components in the GRUBBRR Console. These defaults are automatically selected when a customer adds the item or combo to their cart- no clicking necessary. This means that customers who just want a "standard" Burger can go ahead and add the item right to their cart, but customers who want to add their own toppings can modify the item as much as they'd like.

Want to streamline things even further? Proactively building out default options in your menu also enables the use of "Add as Is" mode for your Kiosk. This adds a pop-up modal to the Kiosk, allowing customers to opt out of the customization flow entirely and add that standard burger directly to their cart!

Defaults can be set in a location-level menu, or as part of an Enterprise menu dataset. Let's take a look at how we can add defaults to items and combos at the location level, and how to turn "Add as Is" mode on for Kiosks at a location.

Go to console.grubbrr.com

1. From the location dashboard, click "Menu Settings"

7. Depending on your menu's structure, you can choose to assign defaults to the main modifier group, or as overrides for a particular item

If you're planning to use the same defaults for all of the items on your menu, then set them for the main modifier group. Otherwise, select "item overrides."

If you know that most customers are going to order their combo with fries and a fountain drink, setting those as the defaults will greatly improve the ordering experience on the Kiosk.
