How Negative Modifiers Work in the GRUBBRR Console
Last updated: August 8, 2026
Can I set my Kiosk to only show when a standard add-on is removed from an item (i.e., "No pickles" on a burger)?
By default, the GRUBBRR Kiosk sends Default Modifiers to the POS as "selected"'; however, some brands may only want to track when these default choices are removed from an item.
In the GRUBBRR Platform, this tracking is sent to your POS as "Negative Modifiers." So, if a burger has default modifiers of Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, and Pickle, we can send a notification that says "No Pickle" when a customer removes a selection. If your team has a "standard" way to prepare menu items, sending negative modifiers can make it easier for them to track when they have to change that process.

Remember, "Negative Modifier" tracking only works if you have created default options in a mod group. You can configure these settings at the location level, or as part of an enterprise menu, by following the steps outlined below.
Go to console.grubbrr.com
1. Select "Menu Settings" in the left sidebar

2. Click "Menu" in the dropdown list

3. You can use the All-in-One Menu Manager dropdowns to find the modifier group you want to update...

4. Or you can switch to the Modifier tab and look through the lists there

5. On the Modifier Group settings page, there is a section labeled "Negative Modifier Behavior"
This is where we'll configure how the Kiosk sends Default Modifiers to your POS.

6. You can tell the Kiosk to report Negative Modifiers as "Not Selected"...
If a customer removes a default option from their item, the Kiosk will print "NO [modifier]" on the order review screen, and will send that to the POS.

7. Or to show Default Modifiers as Pre-selected
This will print a list of all default modifiers that the customer leaves in place for their item, and excludes any modifiers that they choose to remove.

8. Remember to save and sync your changes when you're done configuring your modifiers!
